My name is Aatifa and I am the creator Shaydz Creative Apparel. As a child coming from the Island of Barbados I was always made to feel as if the lighter colored children were better than me. At that time there wasn’t a word for it; today its called Colorism. This had a major impact on my life and made growing up very complex. After coming to the United States and being faced with the same issues, I decided to do something about it. My journey in life has made me more conscious and aware of who I am as a beautiful melanated woman. I want to share that feeling with others. A lot less criticizing, and a lot more uplifting is what we need. This brand was created as my personal love letter to the beauty and essence of the melanated people.
